More about our solvents

Choosing a hydrocarbon solvent

  • N-Butane 99.9998% lab grade - the all-round extraction solvent. Odourless, no added oils, boils at −0.5 °C so it purges easily. 110 lb net.
  • N-Propane 99.7% - boils at −42 °C, so it evaporates and recovers quickly at low temperature. 110 lb net.
  • 70/30 N-Butane / N-Propane mix - instrument grade, both solvents in one cylinder: butane does most of the extraction, propane speeds up recovery. 110 lb net.
  • n-Pentane 99% lab grade - a hydrocarbon that is liquid at room temperature (boils at 36 °C), easy to measure and pour. 5 gallon container.

Cleaning solvents

  • Isopropyl alcohol 99% (IPA) - the everyday cleaner for extraction columns, recovery tanks, stainless parts and glassware; evaporates fast without residue. 20 L.
  • Acetone 99% - the stronger choice for hardened resin, glue, paint and wax. It attacks many plastics and rubbers, so test first. 20 L.

Tank exchange and deposit

Bring back an empty cylinder and pay no deposit on your new one. Without an exchange, a refundable $250 cylinder deposit is added and returned when the cylinder comes back.

They are the supplier grade names; what matters is the purity listed on each product - 99.9998% for our lab grade n-butane, above 99.50% for the instrument grade 70/30 mix and above 99.7% for n-propane.

Can I pick up my order?
