Pentane can be used for the extraction and eluting of distillates, concentrates, volatiles, and essential oils from plant materials. Pentane can be used with hydrocarbon extraction systems that extract herbal oils, botanical compounds and oils from plants. It is a colorless liquid and has a petroleum-like odor.
Why n-pentane
N-pentane is a non-polar hydrocarbon like butane, but it is a liquid at room temperature: it boils at 36 °C (97 °F). That makes it easy to measure and pour, and it evaporates readily, so it can be recovered at low temperature with a rotary evaporator or a recovery system. Ours is 99% lab grade n-pentane.
