Overview
T-12™ is an acid-activated, washed calcium bentonite clay from Carbon Chemistry, and their best clay for removing pigments. Its expanded 5-200 µm particles give it a very large surface area, so it physically binds large molecules such as colour bodies, sugars, proteins, lipids and waxes.
Use it on its own, mixed with other media, or in layers to clarify extracts in polar alcohols or non-polar alkanes. It also works as a filter aid for solid particulates.

Which size should I choose?
Most labs use the 8 kg or 16 kg pail. The 110 kg drum is the best value per kilogram for production.
What pairs well with T-12?
Carbon Chemistry suggests T-5 as a base for depth filtration, Silica 60A for polar separation and Activated Alumina for polar compounds and lipids.
